How to shine as February begins

The ability to shine at what you do is not automatic. It calls for a change, for a digging in, for a looking out on how to improve. The difference among those who make it and those who give up, remains the biggest challenge and differentiator with those who end up shining.

Just like gold, finding it is not a walk in the park. It calls for research, testing, analysis and then the work begins. The first step is of course digging, but not the ordinary kind of digging – it is digging deep to extract the gold. Once it is extracted it goes through a process of refining which includes cleaning, abrasion and firing before it can begin to shine. So how is it that one can achieve a shining outlook?

- Do that which is difficult.
  Most people are at peace with what is normal, usual and easy. However, you cannot expect an easy life if you do only the easy stuff because that is what everyone is doing.
- Be ready for the process
  To get a shine takes time, persistence and a process. A great shine is a result of continuous persistence in cleaning, polishing and waxing.
- Get your focus right
  To get the work done, understand where your focus lies and keep your energy on it. Swaying from the main thing becomes a distraction and with loss of focus, an assured loss of positive outcomes.
- Sharpen your vision on the main thing
  Understand what it is that you need to achieve. While doing so, see it in your mind, believe that it is possible and touch it in your mind then follow up on the vision consistently.
- Have a goal in mind
  Without a goal it is like swimming in an endless sea. Identify your goal, write it down and follow it through to completion.
- Be Accountable
  Accountability keeps us in check where progress is concerned. It helps us to know if we are on our way to do and achieve the right thing. This is necessary to gauge the way forward.

But, in doing all these, the challenge that presents itself is an obstacle. You must find a way to deal with the obstacles before they plug your resolve to shine.
