There is need for Kenya and indeed the entire African continent to harness the resources it has in order to make them sustainable contributors in terms of returns and capital gain.”  Making his contributions during a panel discussion on NTV Live on 13th September 2018, George Wachiuri, Chief Executive Officer at the Optiven Group noted that Africa as a continent remains rich with resources but poor in cash.

Quoting a survey done in the United States of America as regards human capital, Wachiuri noted that Kenyans both locally and abroad remain one of the most resilient people.  Wachiuri further noted that the capacity of Kenyans to work hard is not their only strength, adding that as stakeholders, Kenyans hold the keys to solutions for the challenges facing the country.

He was answering to the query on the role of the business community in making Kenya better in terms of economic growth.  Wachiuri advised that the need to make Kenya better because despite some Kenyans having the ability to travel, Kenya will always remain home.  He added that there is need to further be accountable especially where loans going into their trillions are concerned.

The 5 trillion or so in loans needs to be accounted for, we want to see results because as Kenyans we are paying taxes and there is need to manage the payment of the loans.  This is why the private sector should be involved in the process as stakeholders with the government to discuss the matter of borrowing.

He thanked the government for being a listening government that considers the standpoints of stakeholders.  As regards finding solutions to problems facing the country, it is the responsibility of each Kenyan and Africa through it’s leaders to harness the resources at our disposal.  He added that the golden rule is to be able to manage our god-given resources in order for us to fly high like Eagles.

This, he noted, would both economically and socially transform the society.  Other panelists at the interactive session that aired on NTV included the Vice Chairman of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry James Mureu, and Emgwen Member of Parliament Alex Kosgey among others.
